Welcome to Methodist on the Move!

Methodist Hospital prides itself on being the leader in healthcare for the communities and citizens it serves. In this capacity, it is the responsibility of our organization to make the health and wellbeing of our employees a priority. A sense of caring and commitment to improving the health of our employees goes hand-in-hand with the quality healthcare provided for all Methodist Hospital patients.

While serving as a volunteer patient for a new piece of equipment in 2003, I inadvertently discovered that I was at high risk for heart disease and needed to have an immediate angioplasty procedure. Although my grandfather, father, and mother had all suffered from heart disease, like most people, I thought this would never happen to me. But over a period of three years, I underwent three stent procedures to keep my heart in good shape.

I know that if it wasn’t for the great medical care I received, I would not be here today. I also know that it isn’t the physician’s responsibility to make sure I’m healthy. It’s mine. So, in 2005, I made a commitment to living a healthy life. I exercise at least five days a week in the hospital health club. My diet rarely includes red meat and focuses on chicken, fish, and lots of fruits and vegetables. But most importantly, I listen to my body and what it tells me about my health. Each of us knows when something isn’t right or when we are not doing the things we should to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It’s up to us to take charge of our own health.

In support of personal health and wellness, Methodist Hospital is committed to helping all employees make the lifestyle changes needed to improve their health. This is what Methodist On The Move is all about. Our program is designed to give encouragement, professional guidance, and even financial rewards to every employee who joins and successfully participates in achieving and maintaining healthy lifestyle goals. It’s never too late to start taking your health seriously. So, for yourself, your family, and your future, Get educated. Get involved. Get moving.

Warmest Regards,
Bruce Begley
CEO
